Creativity at Work in Henrico

Henrico is home to thousands of businesses, including an established community of creative companies. From producers of art to uniquely positioned marketing firms, creativity is at work in Henrico.

Creating Art for the World

Have you ever admired a painting in a hotel lobby or furniture store and wondered where it came from? The source could be much closer than you think. World Art Group, formerly known as Old World Prints, has been producing wall décor for over 40 years. In fact, art created at the Villa Park Drive headquarters in Henrico can be found in locations all over the U.S. and in 30 countries worldwide.

“We design and publish art for the home décor industry,” says Lonnie Lemco, owner, World Art Group. “Our clients are wholesale framers from around the world. We create and print artwork on loose paper and canvas for them. They then matte and frame it and sell it to restaurants, businesses, hotels, furniture and department stores, including retail chains like HomeGoods and Target, and e-commerce sites. We also license and publish art from over 100 artists around the world.”

The company generates over 100 new pieces of art a week. Diligently producing the work is a talented team of 45 individuals, including 20 full-time artists, graphic artists and embellishment artists. (Learn more.)

Video Production Firms are Booming

Founded in 1981 in Williamsburg, Virginia, Metro Productions is one of the leading media production companies in the Mid-Atlantic. We profiled the company in a 2011 story and featured it in our “Henrico County Companies in Focus” video series.  Metro Productions is no stranger to the spotlight (pun intended!), recently grabbing nine silver and bronze Telly Awards. BES Studios, another successful video production company, is also located in Henrico. The business, which was founded in 1975, celebrated a move from Atmore Drive to its new million-dollar facility on Old Osborne Turnpike on June 29 this year.

The new 11,000 square-foot space, just outside of Rocketts Landing, is the very definition of city chic office meets high-tech production space. From the customized desks, to the well-planned nooks, to the state-of-the art recording area, the design delivers. And so does the spectacular city skyline view.

BES employs 11 full-time workers and produces over a thousand video, audio and web projects each year. “We are a full-service production company that produces audio-visual content for broadcast television, radio, corporate and web-based communications,” says Barry Ellenberger, producer, BES Studios. “Our clients consist of advertising agencies, PR firms, corporations, government entities and non-profits. We specialize in HD digital photography, audio recording, editing, animation, motion graphics, custom music composition and a complete range of production management services.“

The search for the company’s new location took two years, explains Ellenberger. “We knew that a new studio designed with all of our needs, creative vision and future growth in mind was necessary. The location also had to be convenient to downtown, where many of the creative agencies and clients we work with are located, and it had to have ample parking. Honestly, we didn’t think such a space existed, but we’re so happy to have we found it here in Henrico.”

“Multiplying Your Marketing”

On Hold Marketing is an audio studio that writes and produces customized messaging and mixes it with appropriate music for retail locations and business phone systems. Rich Moncure, president of On Hold Marketing, explains how the process works. “Our messaging content can be designed to educate the audience or market to them, or a combination of the two. The way our service ‘multiplies your marketing’ is by carefully duplicating or emulating current marketing efforts underway, yet in a manner more conducive to the condition of being on hold or shopping in a store.”

Carefully chosen broadcast voice artists and licensed music are used to create the perfect audio experience. The final product is designed to enhance brand image and customer experience.

“We’re simultaneously engaging the caller so that the time on hold seems shorter, reducing the number of callers who hang up, increasing the time callers will wait for a representative, encouraging referrals, creating loyalty, reinforcing branding — all while making the caller feel appreciated,” says Moncure. “With what other form of advertising can a caller, immediately after hearing an offer, get to speak with a representative who can take their order or answer their questions?”

Since its inception in 1989, On Hold Marketing has grown from a regional studio to a national marketing company with clients across many business verticals and in each of the continguous 48 states.
