Enjoy Spring with Henrico Recreation and Parks!

Henrico County offers parks, programs and special events for everyone to enjoy! When you’re ready to plan your day, there’s no better place to start than with the Division of Recreation and Parks.

"The Henrico Recreation and Parks System offers a wide breadth of experiences, from the passive park experience to active recreational opportunities, to cultural attractions like the Henrico Theatre," says Neil Luther, Director of Henrico Recreation and Parks.

"We are proud of the wide range of programs and facilities we offer our customers in the County." In addition to the traditional park experience, there are hidden jewels waiting to be discovered in Henrico, including the Nature Center at Three Lakes Park and Henrico Theatre in Highland Springs.

The Nature Center at Three Lakes Park is a 6,500-square-foot facility where visitors can learn about the plant and animal life native to the area and living in the park’s wetlands and woodlands. A 50,000-gallon aquarium and an assortment of live exhibits, dioramas and interactive displays make this attraction appealing for all ages.

"The Nature Center is a wonderful resource where native species and fauna are on display. There are a variety of programs offered there year-round, and the best part is it’s right around the corner," explains Luther. He continues, "I think another great jewel within our parks system is the Henrico Theatre.

It’s newly renovated and acts as a cultural center now. It’s a vibrant and adaptive use of a historic building." The Henrico Theatre, located on East Nine Mile Road, originally opened as a movie palace on April 25, 1938, and reopened in 2007 after a major renovation. Today the theatre is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and is a venue for local theater, music and dance performances.

It’s a great place to see an “olde-time movie” or enjoy a concert or ballet! Living in Henrico County means having access to an excellent assortment of cultural and recreational opportunities. Here’s a list of what’s happening in April at Three Lakes Park and the Henrico Theatre.
