Get to Know International Shipping Firm ICL

Henrico County’s strategic East Coast location and multiple transportation hubs make it the perfect place for businesses in the supply chain management and logistics industries – companies like Independent Container Line (ICL). ICL has been linking the United States and Europe via its shipping network since 1985.

ICL is a privately held company headquartered in Henrico County, with European headquarters in Antwerp, Belgium. Approximately 60 employees work at the company’s 27,000-square-foot space in Henrico’s Innsbrook Corporate Center. All told, the company employs approximately 170 people.

“Central Virginia has been a wonderful place for ICL, and we’ve called Henrico County home for years,” says Dale Ross, ICL COO. “We enjoy the collective spirit here, and embrace philanthropic opportunities to enhance our community.”

Connecting the East Coast to Europe

The ICL Group operates four container ships with fixed-day weekly calls at its four direct ports in Chester, Pennsylvania, and Wilmington, North Carolina, in the U.S., and Antwerp, Belgium, and Liverpool, England, in Europe.

Services provided by the ICL Group include:

  • Guaranteed delivery of full container loads
  • Less-than-container-load cargo service
  • Warehousing and distribution services
  • Cargo insurance
  • Documentation and cargo clearances
  • Cargo tracking and tracing

Recognized as A Great Place to Work

In addition to being a successful international shipping company, ICL is also a great place to work. The company has been recognized consistently as a Best Place to Work in Virginia since 2013 and as a Richmond Times-Dispatch Top Work Place each year since 2014.

ICL’s positive work environment is based on collaboration and employee empowerment. But there are other reasons why ICL is a great place to work. As a certified Active RVA company, ICL is committed to the health of its employees and encouraging an active lifestyle. Employees also embrace opportunities to enhance their community through philanthropic activities. They routinely participate in local campaigns for MDA, Ronald McDonald House, Children's Miracle Network, Richmond CenterStage and other charities, as well as supporting national organizations like Special Olympics, The First Tee, the American Cancer Society and Mercy Ships.
